Description

During Day 4 "Water quality and ecology" of the Delft3D User Days the latest advances in tools used for water quality and ecological modelling are presented. Delft3D water quality and ecology users will demonstrate the potential for analysing challenges in both freshwater and salt water systems around the world. The program offers a mix of lectures and hands-on training, all aimed at demonstrating capabilities and disseminating knowledge on the practical use of the tools and models.

“How do salt march ecosystems develop and why are they important?”

“How can we choose the best parameters for water quality models?”

“How can we estimate emissions of emerging contaminants when we have little in-situ measurement data?”

These types of questions are those being studied using a variety of models native to the open source Delft3D Suite and related Deltares software products. In some cases these water quality and ecology models rely on input from hydrodynamic or sediment models for information on flow fields or morphology and in others cases they act as stand-alone models.  The use of these integrated models has led to new developments, insights, and understanding for water management. By combining these water quality and ecological processes into other models within the Delft3D environment, the water quality and ecology modules enable investigators to quantify the processes relevant to aquatic ecosystems, and can help identify and explore potential solutions to environmental problems.

Other topics that might be of interest to you:
DAY 1: Hydrology and hydrodynamics (river, rural and urban), including 1D2D flood modelling
DAY 2: Hydrodynamics (ocean, coastal, estuarine and lake)
DAY 3: Coastal morphodynamics OR River morphodynamics

4-day Delft3D - User Days 2019 and joint XBeach - Delft3D User Day on coastal morphodynamics
The Delft3D - User Days during the Delft Software Days (DSD-INT 2019) provide a unique venue for all Delft3D Flexible Mesh (Delft3D FM), Delft3D 4, SOBEK and XBeach users and developers worldwide to present the latest Delft3D applications, new scientific insights in modelling, the open source developments and our latest services, such as Compute as a Service (CaaS), Model as a Service (MaaS) and Data as a Service (DaaS).

From 2013 – 2019, several Delft3D beta testers worldwide have carried out practical applications and benchmark studies with the Delft3D FM Suite, including hydrodynamics (1D-2D-3D), waves, morphology, water quality, ecology, hydrology and real time control, using the modules D-Flow Flexible Mesh, D-Waves, D-Morphology, D-Water Quality, D-Hydrology and D-Real Time Control, respectively. The results on coastal, estuarine, river, rural and urban applications will be demonstrated during the Delft3D User Days 2019.

Interested in presenting your work?

The Delft3D User Days will be the venue for all Delft3D FM, Delft3D 4, SOBEK and XBeach users and developers worldwide to present the latest applications, new scientific insights in modelling, on-demand services and the open source developments (https://oss.deltares.nl).
