Description

The DANUBIUS-RI initiative aims to establish a distributed, pan-European Environmental Research Infrastructure for advanced studies on River-Sea Systems. Its mission includes facilitating excellent science on the continuum from river source to sea, offering state-of-the art research infrastructure and providing the integrated knowledge required to manage and protect River-Sea Systems. 

There are four nodes of DANUBIUS-RI: (1) Observation Node, (2) Analysis Node, (3) Modelling Node, and (4) Impact Node. Their combined ambitions are to

  • Overcome the current fragmentation of science, knowledge, data and management in rivers and seas by integrating spatial, temporal, disciplinary and sectorial thinking. 
  • To provide scientific solutions to environmental and societal risks arising from global and climate change. 
  • Offer a source to sea perspective to resolve problems arising from human impacts on River-Sea Systems.

The explicit foci of the Modelling Node include developing modelling tools, linking socio-economic impacts, investigating future scenarios and providing expert support. The Modelling Node is organised into the following thematic working groups (WG):

  • WG1 Spatially integrated models in River-Sea systems
  • WG2 Interchange formats, standardization of input/output
  • WG3 Post Processing
  • WG4 Water quality and pollution modeling

At this webinar, in a series of lightning talks and a panel discussion, you will learn about the current status of the modelling activities in the DANUBIUS-RI, highlighting the potential for models to address critical environmental challenges. The community will discuss challenges faced and overcome, whilst sharing new developments and results.
