HABITAT is spatial analysis tool to support the development of management plans. The tool is especially designed for ecological assessments to analyse the availability and quality of habitats for species and species groups. It has been applied in studies to assess the ecological response of (restoration) measures to meet the ecological objectives, to analyse the ecological impact of climate change and adaptation strategies and to conduct an environmental impact assessment of implementation of infrastructures.

HABITAT uses dose-effect relations of species based on a set of critical habitat requirements as input. Many of the dose-effect relations that have been used in previous projects are stored in an ecological knowledge base, which can be accessed within HABITAT via the Python Scripting environment. The tool is incorporated in the Delta Shell user-interface.

Recent developments were focused on a better coupling between HABITAT and the Delft3D-FLOW and Delft3D-WAQ modules of the Delft3D 4 Suite. A new tool was created to calculate spatiotemporal hydro-morphodynamical- and water quality statistics and to convert these data to HABITAT input. Another development enables the sharing and storing of knowledge rules. These knowledge rules allow for (partial) reuse of previously developed models in new applications and can be accessed within HABITAT via the opensource Deltares KnowledgeRules GitHub. HABITAT is free-ware and can be downloaded on the HABITAT download page.

In this webinar, we will present some HABITAT applications in recent projects and demonstrate the new HABITAT developments.
