The Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite 1D2D is hydrodynamic modelling software for simulating irrigation and drainage systems, for river systems and urban drainage systems. The Delft3D FM Suite combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic computational engines of the 2D Delft3D 4 and 1D2D SOBEK 2 and adds flexible model building. Delft3D FM Suite 1D2D is set up within the Delta Shell Framework, providing additional functionality, extensive compatibility and an intuitive user interface.

Programme

In this workshop, participants will get hands on with Delft 3D FM to create a 1D-2D hydrodynamic model of a catchment in Kampala.
Upon completion of the 1-day course the participants shall be able to:

  1. Describe the principles of 1D2D hydrodynamic modelling and the consequences of assumptions that need to be made.
  2. Build and run a simple 1D2D hydrodynamic flood model, and evaluate the results.
  3. Test simple flood mitigation measures in the flood model.

Prior knowledge/skills:

Participants are expected to have prior skills and knowledge of spreadsheets (Excel) and GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS), as well as a good basic understanding of hydrology and hydraulics
