Google Earth Engine combines a multi-petabyte catalog of satellite imagery and geospatial datasets with planetary-scale analysis capabilities. Scientists, researchers, and developers use Earth Engine to detect changes, map trends, and quantify differences on the Earth's surface. Earth Engine is now available for commercial use, and remains free for academic and research use.

Programme

In this workshop, participants will get hands on with Google Earth Engine. Participants will explore applications for drought analysis using Google Earth Engine, earning how to use the Google Earth Engine Code Editor and build their own simple Google Earth Engine Applications. Upon completion of the 1-day course the participants shall be able to:

  1. Describe what Google Earth Engine is and what it can be used for.
  2. Use the Google Earth Engine Code Editor to visualize earth observation data.
  3. Use Google Earth Engine to build a simple user-interface to generate time series from earth observation data at a point location.

Prior knowledge/skills:

Participants are expected to have some prior knowledge of Remote Sensing / GIS principles. Prior knowledge of Javascript or other programming language is an advantage.
